As a parent, I am amazed at watching my children grow and experience life in its entirety. The freedom they have in expressing their emotion, perception and experience is inspiring to me.
My son has always been a child with wild imagination, and great expression. Watching him play on the beach and hearing what he was saying to himself, he was clearly deeply immersed in a battle narrative with the sea. His impulse to live his warrior fantasy was interrupted only by moments of pure playfulness, enjoying the sand and the water and the wind.
In photographing my children I strive to match them rather than capture or spy on them.. I use my camera spontaneously, emotionally and imperfectly in an attempt to enter into their world rather than disrupt it. In this sense my goal is for the camera to be an instrument of expression of joy, wonder and amazement.
